Oshkosh, WI
In the fall of 2021, I flew up to Oceano airport with my friend Julio in his Piper Cherokee 140. While there, we talked to volunteer who was at the airport doing some clean up. When I told her about my Bonanza, she asked if I’d ever consider flying in formation with the B2Osh group. It sounded like fun so when I got home I began to investigate the possibility.
There were all sorts of requirements, including a mandatory training course but when we looked at the benefits, it sounds great. Last year, we camped in the south 40 at KOSH and everyone told us that the better camping was in the north 40. The only way to guarantee camping there was to fly in with the B2Osh group. Plus, we thought it would be a great way to socialize and meet many other Bonanza owners and pilots.
Luckily for us, Jeff already had formation training and was open to do the flying. He took one of the training classes and we were ready to join in the fun. The formation flight was scheduled to start from La Crosse, WI for a one hour flight.

That morning, 109 Bonanzas lined up on the runway and took off three across. As the plane on the right of our formation of three, we landed on our assigned runway 36R which is actually the taxiway which becomes a runway one week per year.
We parked and setup camp behind the wings and joined the rest of the group for a pizza party after our arrival. Then, we weathered a storm that came in that evening where we battled 60 mph winds. After that was over, the rest of the week was beautiful weather.
